Clubs in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Championship have been asked to review their Covid protocols following comments from Celtic manager Neil Lennon, in which he criticised the “physical distancing” measures in place at clubs including Hamilton Accies.
During an explosive press conference rant following Celtic’s ill-fated trip to Dubai that saw 13 players self-isolate and two test positive for Covid, the Hoops gaffer took aim at Accies and St Johnstone, in particular.
Lennon said: “In terms of physical distancing we have been in dressing rooms throughout the country – Hamilton on Boxing Day, St Johnstone – where there is no physical distancing.
“There is no room, we are cramped up, 15-20 people in the one room, and now, all of a sudden, we adhere to all protocols, taken photograph, adhered to every rule in place and we have 13 players and three staff isolating for 10 days that, apart from one, are all negative – it is absolutely preposterous.”
And Sky Sports reports that the 22 clubs within Scotland’s top two tiers are now being asked to provide information on their current procedures to the SFA’s Joint Response Group.
Clubs are being asked to provide the JRG with plans of the home, away and referee’s changing rooms, as well as dimensions of said rooms, shower rooms, shower heads and the position of dividers/doors and windows.
A JRG spokesperson confirmed correspondence had been distributed, saying: “A letter was sent to clubs following a request by member clubs at the recent SPFL general meeting.”
Accies are understood to be baffled by Lennon’s claims, but high ranking club officials and manager Brian Rice did not wish to comment on the matter when contacted by Lanarkshire Live Sport…….read more
