Here&Now: The remembrance ceremony of HRH Oba Adeniyi Olufemi Fashade ‘Owa of Igbajo'(Video)

Death is by all ramifications the most painful of all losses for one great reason, namely: its finality. And for this reason, when loved ones die, it is usually almost impossible to forget them.

This explains why close family and friends gathered together recently for the remembrance of Oba Adeniyi Oluyemi Fashade.

The occasion began on a solemn note. The hall was packed full with a great crowd of gorgeously attired people. And there was food and drink aplenty.

Olori Elizabeth Fashade, widow of the deceased was the first to talk to Citymoods:

“This occasion is for my late husband. And there is a lot I can tell you about him. He was a kind and very loving man. You can see the crowd as a testimony to that fact. And this remembrance has been on since last week. He was a good man who loved his people and his domain. And he was a really truthful man.”

Right after her came Olatunde Fashade, son of the deceased. He too was full of great eulogy for his late father.

In attestation to what both the widow and son of the deceased said, these other close relatives also took turns to eulogize the late Oba.

At the live bandstand, “tradition” was the first word that came to mind, beginning with the dresses, then on to their musical instruments, then their beats, and then their songs.

Chief Adeyemi Sanusi told us more about the departed, with the traditional music and song going on in the background.

Most times, the good deeds of a man come to light after his death. Little wonder the so many eulogies.

Barrister Ilori, a son-in-law also had these very heartfelt words of praises for the deceased.

And so too did Mubo Fashade, a daughter-in-law.

At the background, the traditional music was waxing stronger and almost reaching a crescendo.

Olori Folashade Oyedepo, a sister-in-law, also had very appreciative words about the departed to say to us.

Going by the shower of eulogies and the lyrics of the traditional song all singing the praises of the deceased, it could rightly be said that the occasion was truly a celebration of life.

Chief Margaret Oke, an in-law also added her voice to the loud chorus of eulogies:

“He was nice. And his children are also good. His wife and I are related on my other’s side. May God help her to watch over the children. And may no evil befall all he left behind.”

And then came time for dance and menu-menu. As the Fuji live band took over the bandstand and people crowded the dance floor, uniformed food handlers were all over the hall, serving everyone.

From Citymoods to the entire family of Oba Adeniyi Oluyemi Fashade, may God continue to grant you the fortitude to bear the great loss.
