The Hassles of Haggling Prices

I hate haggling.
Arguing/Debating over product price.
‘Pricing’.
It gives me shivers.
I fear getting ripped off or cheated and at the same time I wanted a fair deal.
Anytime I needed to buy fresh meat or fish ehn????
I would need to brace up myself mentally, emotionally, financially and even physically before showing my incomplete teeth at the market place.
Those sellers could destroy a persons psyche if you no stand well well.
I try as much as possible to avoid the unpleasant task of ‘Oja Nina’.
Fada Lawd!
When will shoprite come to ‘Elepete’ nitori olohun😆🤔😕?
Same goes for online products, anytime I hear ‘DM for price’ nah to run.
How do you advertise a product,I ask you for price, you ask me to check ‘DM’.
DM ko,MD ni.
I won’t buy again.
Why can’t Nigerians just put a price tag on products.
I so hate ‘Pricing products’.
Why can’t you just tell me your ‘Real’ price?
Why torment me with a ridiculously high price, that I need to start beating down?
I was however craving Fresh fish so bad on this day that I decided to brave out the consequences of this market women.
Despite the fact that I had a tight budget, I jumped on a random bike to the market this very very hot afternoon.
Scorching hot day.
The bike fare nah 150 Naira normal normal.
I had to start by beating down bike fare from 200 Naira to 150 Naira.
I got to the market and gave bike man 200 Naira,he didn’t have change.
He honestly did his best by asking all around but nobody seemed to have change.
I stood by the road, getting toasted by the sun.
Brown Skin girl, getting browner and browner.
The sun that day was practically roasting me alive.
Sweating profusely.
Throat parched and dry.
I was thirsty.
Water.
I needed water.
Finally I intervened,I took back my money and told the bike man I wanted to buy water.
Bottle water.
I beckoned to a mama Hawking Bottles of water.
I took one bottle and handed her 200 naira.
Mama said a bottle of water was 100 Naira!
I froze.
In slow motion,I asked again how much for one bottle of water?
“100 Naira” she repeated.
Haaaaaa!
I returned the water.
Mama asked me:
“Elo le fe San”
How much do you want to pay?
Haaaaaaaaa!
So it has finally gotten to a stage where one has to start ‘pricing’ haggling over one bottle of water in this Country?
“Iya wa,emabinu,mi o ra omi mo,owo ni mo fe se ma”
“I am sorry ma,I am not buying water again ma,I only wanted to get change for my money ma”
I started ‘shalaye’ to the woman.
“Oya take it for 80 Naira”
Mama persisted.
I shook my head.
“Oya take it for 70 Naira,my child” mama insisted.
Egbami!
I just couldn’t imagine ‘pricing’ bottle water.
Which Kain trauma is this nitori oloun?
I dinor prep for this kain thing nah.
To start arguing over price of bottle Water nitori olohun?
Mama I am sorry I can’t afford the bottle of water.
Nah to cut my coat according to my cloth bayi😫
I beckoned on ‘pure water’ seller.
Water packaged and sold in sachets.
How much for ‘pure water’ I asked with voice trembling.
This is Nigeria, anything is possible, na tap water I dey drink for my house.
Thank goodness ‘pure water’ still sold for 10 Naira.
I took 5 paid, got my change and made to pay bike man, pure water broke out from the tiny bag the seller put them in,everything fell to the ground!
All dirtied by the red sand.
Wahala.
I picked one sachet tore it open and started pouring the water to clean the other sachet from the ground.
I drank the first.
Splashed a second sachet on my face.
Washed off the rest.
Bike man took his money and one sachet of water.
By this time i wasn’t in the right frame of mind to go and start argument over fresh fish again.
I went back home.
You pipu that buy fuel in your cars,I hear you also ‘price’ fuel now,nah true?
