A tearful Theresa May was overcome with emotion as she resigned as Prime Minister, saying it had been an honour to serve “the country I love”.
But her tenure behind the black door of No 10 Downing Street has been one of the most chaotic in Britain’s recent history.
From losing a general election, cutting a deal with the DUP and experiencing embarrassing defeat after embarrassing defeat in the House of Commons – it has been an exceptionally dramatic sting as PM.
She finally confirmed she would step down as leader of the Conservative Party in a harrowing speech on the steps of Number 10.
She began to stumble on her words as she confirmed she would shortly be leaving the job that “it has been the honour of my life to hold.”
